Prayer in Every County for America on 9/11, 2008
I was on an airplane on September 11, 2001 as the attacks were underway on our nation. After watching the first tower crumble to the ground in the chaotic Midway Airport terminal in Chicago, I turned to my friend and said, "The world has changed forever. It will never be the same."
To remember the greatest “wake-up call" in our generation, the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, evangelical, charismatic, and Pentecostal leaders across the United States have established a day of prayer in every county of America. They have launched the Awakening America Alliance (AAA) in an effort to unite the American church for change -- and they have issued a new call for a Christian awakening.
As part of Awakening America, a call is being issued for Christians across the nation to mark this significant day in our history with powerful prayer for America and the lost individuals of this country.
In every one of the 3141 counties in the United States, during the noon lunch hour on September 11, Christians will unite around their county courthouse to cry out to God with focused prayer for their community, their lost friends and family, and for the spiritual condition of our nation.
This nation-wide prayer meeting, "Cry Out America," is a new spiritual wake-up call in our generation.
"These groups uniting for this common cause is a unique moment in the body of Christ. We are joining together in broad participation and taking positive action," said Alliance executive cabinet chairman, Billy Wilson.
"This is significant when you see participation at this level in such a solemn action that is being done in recognition of the present condition of the American church," Wilson explained.
America has become the third largest mission field in the world. In addition, moral failure among Christian leaders continues at a high level, according to Wilson.
"The current state of the church, the moral confusion of American citizens and the lost condition of a new generation of Americans demands action," Wilson explained, "action that will provoke dramatic change and which will have a dynamic impact for Christ."
The Awakening America Alliance is a non-partisan, cooperative effort of the body of Christ with more than 90 national leaders. Major Christian organizations, ministries, and denominations have joined the Alliance -- including CBN, Moody Broadcasting, the Assemblies of God, Youth With a Mission, and Every Home for Christ -- with a growing number of churches and ministries being added daily.
"The Alliance is committed to collaborating together in prayer, fasting, and national events throughout the year, seeking renewal and transformation in individual lives and the American church," Wilson said.
