Presentation Description:

This full-day conference trains people to appropriately share the love and hope of Jesus Christ to those affected by personal crisis, man-made or natural disaster.

Man-made and natural disasters can happen at any time, but co-workers, neighbors, and friends don’t have to go through a hurricane or earthquake to experience a personal storm or a shattered life. Operation Blessing, the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT) & Regent University's Center for Trauma Studies invite you to attend a special seminar that will help you share God’s hope and comfort in times of crisis every day and during major disasters.

The purpose of this seminar is to equip you to confidently respond with the love of Christ and with some basic trauma skills training in appropriate ways to those who are either going through or have experienced crisis in their life.

Target Audience:

Anyone who works with people, participates in missions, home groups, youth, first responders, medical and caring professions, leadership positions of influence/caring and those who simply love God and want to help others.

Workshop Objectives:

Train and recruit counselors, chaplains, social workers, educators and others interested in ministering and counseling persons affected by trauma for deployment with the Rapid Response Team.

Equip God's people to appropriately share His hope and comfort with people everyday who experience a personal crisis.

Help churches develop Disaster Preparedness Plans.

Learning Objectives:

list and apply basic strategies of psychological first aid in first response traumatic situations.

utilize and identify underlying emotional and spiritual coping techniques when working with individuals who have experienced a severe traumatic reaction in both natural and man-made trauma situations.

clarify and list symptoms of traumatic stress and reactions to trauma that those who have been in a traumatic situation might experience.

synthesize intervention strategies and identify appropriate applications in a variety of settings.

A Message from Jody L. Herrington-Gettys:

"With "Crisis" and "Tragedy" reverberating around us throughout the nation and many times next door or even within our own family, there has never been a more urgent time for the Body of Christ to be equipped to respond during these times of crisis with the love of Christ. Operation Blessing and Regent University are teaming up with Billy Graham's Rapid Response Ministry to offer a one-day seminar in Virginia Beach entitled, "Sharing Hope in Crisis. As many of your know I serve as the Director of U.S. Disaster Relief and I see people in crisis who are experiencing tragedy in epic proportions on a regular basis.

I attended this training several years ago and personally, I think it is one of the most valuable "tools" that I have added to my professional experience. These eight hours could be life-changing for you, your family and friends as you learn the tools, approaches, and techniques to appropriately help people discover hope and experience the love of God during the most difficult times of their lives… Remember "Crisis" is not only large events like natural disasters and school shootings but the crisis of losing a loved one, hearing that someone you know has cancer, a house fire and many more events… Crisis is Crisis and tragedy is devastating no matter how "large" or "small" it may seem – it is DEVASTATING and people need YOU to help them see that there is HOPE and LOVE and there is a loving God who wants to help them walk through their crisis with hope, love and victory over time."
