Sunday, the First Family attended church at Metropolitan AME Church.

The President, First Lady and daughters Sasha and Malia Obama joined several hundred church goers. The Obamas were greeted with loud cheers from the crowd when they arrived.

"Mr. and Mrs. Obama thank you for your leadership," the Right Rev. Adam J. Richardson said as he delivered the Episcopal greetings. Richardson also commended the President for the eulogy he spoke for the victims of the Tucson shooting last week.

The congregation prayed for the people of Tucson during morning prayers. Prayers were followed by a series of African-American heritage hymns, including the Negro National Anthem.

The theme of the sermon preached by the Rev. Ronald E Braxton was "When God singles you out." Braxton highlighted the stories of Rosa Parks and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The congregation sang "Happy Birthday" to the First Lady, whose birthday is today. She stood as they sang, and waved to the pastor and the audience.
