Obama Stabs at 'Political' items in the Budget

Social conservatives have been rejoicing lately because in the temporary measure for the budget, at least in the House, they've managed to get language in the bill that would effectively de-fund Planned Parenthood.

Congressional leaders are having a hard time coming up with a budget that Republicans and Democrats can agree on and send to the President's desk.

In fact, it looks like we'll have at least one more of these stop-gap measures passed before a final budget for the next year.

Social conservatives have really been putting the pressure on House Speaker Boehner and others to keep the language that would de-fund Planned Parenthood in. It faces some opposition in the Senate.

And, today - the President came out against it, too. Saying it amounts to playing politics with the budget.

"If Republicans are interested in social issues that they want to promote, they should put a bill on the floor of the House and promote it, have an up or down vote, send it over to the Senate. But don’t try to use the budget as a way to promote a political or ideological agenda," the President said at a news conference Friday.
