Little Chance Harmful Radiation Could Reach US

President Obama said once again today that the United States will stand with Japan as it recovers from last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

"We will stand with Japan in the difficult days ahead," he said.

As far as concerns about nuclear fallout go, the U.S. Navy has reportedly moved several ships away from the Fukushimi Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant. Some crew members were exposed to low levels of radiation.

U.S. officials say there is little chance any harmful levels of radiation could reach the U.S., including Hawaii or any U.S. territories.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has sent two experts to Japan. The Department of Energy has also sent experts in reactors and emergency response to Japan.

It does not appear this disaster is having any effect on future of energy policy in the United States. "It remains a part of the president's overall energy plan," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said today.
