White House Launches Interfaith Campus Effort

Today the White House launched an effort to encourage interfaith cooperation on U.S. college campuses, with a focus on community service.

The Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge is sponsored by the White House Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Department of Education.

Basically, campus-based religious (and non-faith related) organizations will work together with community organizations or churches to take on community service challenges that are a year-long.

In a video message posted on the White House Blog, President Obama said, “As a Christian who became committed to the church while serving my community, I know that an act of service can unite people of all faiths – or even no faith – around a common purpose of helping those in need.  In doing so, we can not only better our communities, we can build bridges of understanding between ourselves and our neighbors,”

Colleges who are interested in participating can sign up on the White House website.

“While we may not all believe the same things – and we don’t have to – we can certainly agree that together, we can make a difference," President Obama added in the video message, which you can watch below.
