The Case for War?

The country may be divided over whether the United States should take action in Syria, but it's becoming increasingly clear that the Obama administration is coalescing (or has already) around a decision.

Delivering remarks Friday afternoon, Secretary of State John Kerry essentially made the case for war after chemical weapons were used against Syrian civilians last week, killing more than 1,400 people - including more than 420 children.

Secretary Kerry said the administration has "high confidence" that the chemical weapons attack was carried out by the government of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

While the "war powers" turf war between the White House and Congress plays out in the foreground, it seems increasingly clear that military action is imminent.

When you hear America's chief diplomat use terms like "thug" and "murderer" to describe Pres. Assad and argue against inaction due to Americans' war fatigue, it's more than likely that the pending ultimate decision -- which Kerry said would "bear no resemblance" to Afghanistan, Iraq or Libya -- will not be a diplomatic one.
