Congressional Staff Pause For Moment of Silence

01-10-2011

Congress is not in session, so most members are not at the Capitol today. But their aides are. And at 11 a.m. this morning, many of them came together for a moment of silence on the East Front steps.

The quiet ceremony was led by top aides to House Speaker John Boehner and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

President Obama called for the moment of silence. He and his wife and staff marked the occasion at the White House.

Hundreds of staffers joined together in silence, followed by a prayer offered by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"Help us from this dark place to a place of sunshine, and hope," he prayed.
