Returning to a theme from his first presidential campaign in 2008, Pres. Obama lamented his inability to unite Americans in the last seven years as the leader of United States and the free world.

And judging by the response of his supporters and foes, his final State of the Union address did little by way of mending fences.

Dr. Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, described Pres. Obama as dismissive of reality in response to the speech. Piper also said he felt greatly disturbed because the president, whose support among Evangelicals has withered since his first election, ignored Christians as he has in the past.

The Christian educator was a guest of Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) and accepted the invitation to see and hear the speech at the U.S. Capitol as a public stand in his school’s lawsuit against the Obama Administration’s contraception mandate.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University is one of four state Christian colleges involved in a lawsuit that will be argued before the Supreme Court this spring.

Piper insists taking the challenge to the courts is the right thing to do and told CBN News even if his side loses, they will “go down fighting.”

Controversy at Wheaton College

Dr. Piper also told CBN News he agrees with the pending personnel decision of Wheaton College, which appears to be moving toward firing a professor for supporting Muslims by wearing a hijab and saying Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

Yet, he also suggested it'd be highly unlikely for his school to find itself in a similar situation.

That's because Piper said he's very careful about who he hires, based on the Evangelical school's four pillars: the primacy of Jesus Christ, the priority of scripture [the Bible], the pursuit of truth, and the practice of wisdom.

University or Day Care?

In December, Piper penned a written soliloquy chastising today’s youth for being self-absorbed, narcissistic, and too often guilty of playing the victim card.

While his feelings have not wavered, he did explain why working with today’s youth at a Christian college gives him hope about America’s future in spite of the challenges both here at home and around the world.
