49er's Colin Kaepernick and Racial Reconciliation

08-29-2016

Love is patient, love is kind and God is love. Therefore, if ever there was an issue the Church can lead on, it's racial reconciliation.

Frustration with injustices and how people should or shouldn't express them surfaced once again when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to sit while the national anthem played before a preseason football game.

Maina Mwaura, a pastor, writer and speaker from Atlanta, Georgia, is passionate about the issue of racial reconciliation and joined Beltway Buzz to talk about how Christians can be part of the solution.

A good place to start? Mwaura says if Christians follow these steps, we'll be on our way as a nation.

  1. Stay at the table and keep talking even when it feels uncomfortable
  2. Acknowledge that "yes, there is a problem"
  3. Agree to disagree
  4. Find solutions: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. chose love, peace and hope
  5. Remember how far we've come as a nation (it's a long way)
