Bible Verses about Marriage and Love

The holy union of marriage is bonded in deep love and reverence to the Father. Delve into His Word and see what God says about this union between a man and a woman.

In the Beginning

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of man, and brought her to the man. That is why a man leaves his father and mother is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” NIV

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. NIV

The Sanctity of Marriage

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. NIV

Then they [older women] can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands so that no one will malign the word of God. NIV

Love and Respect in Marriage

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. NIV

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. NIV

Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. NIV

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. NIV

Wives, submit to yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. NIV

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives... NIV

The Meaning of Love

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. NIV

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. NIV

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. NIV

May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. NIV

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. NIV
