Bible Verses about Prayer & Praying

Many people say, “I don't really know how to pray.” But God’s instructions are clear as to how to pray, who to pray for, when to pray, where to pray, and what you should pray for. The Bible gives specific direction for all those things and more. God created man to be in fellowship with Him and daily prayer is important to that relationship.

Bible Verses about How to Pray

  • Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. NLT
  • For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. NLT
  • But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! NLT

Bible Verses about When to Pray

  • Never stop praying. NLT
  • Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. NLT
  • We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. NLT

Bible Verses about Who to Pray For

  • I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. NLT
  • Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. NLT
  • But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! NLT

Bible Verses about Where to Pray

  • But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.  NLT
  • Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. NIV
  • Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.  NLT

Bible Verses about What to Pray For

  • Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure. NIV
  • If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. NIV
  • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.   NIV
