Book Review: Set-Apart Femininity by Leslie Ludy

Set-Apart Femininity: God’s Sacred Intent for Every Young Woman
By Leslie Ludy
Harvest House Publishers, August 2008
ISBN: 978-0736922869, 240 pages

This empowering message is filled with inspiring stories, personal illustrations, and a foundation of God’s Word to awaken young women to sacred femininity and a life infused with meaning. Each chapter encourages readers to release worldly standards and set their sights on a more worthy pursuit as they:

• Surrender to God’s love and wholeness
• Embrace the real blueprint for beauty
• Enjoy spectacular purpose
• Captivate the masculine heart
• Cultivate spiritual strength

As the mother of a teenaged daughter I wondered if Set-Apart Femininity would adequately discuss the concerns and issues of modern day Christian young women. And overall, I believe it did. Although this book does come off as a bit preachy at times—Leslie Ludy’s message is an important one. She sounds a clear call to young women to separate themselves from worldly passions, desires, dress, and entertainment, and to live lives of purity before God.

Set-Apart Femininity contains many inspiring examples and stories of Christian women who rose above mediocrity and compromise, and the book’s overall message encourages young ladies to raise the bar on their behavior, and in their devotion to Christ. In Chapter 2 Ludy writes: Instead of just rolling our eyes at the high call of the set-apart life, it’s time we recognize and embrace the supernatural power that Christ provides to equip us to live triumphant, victorious, valiant lives—lives that literally shock this world around us.

Leslie Ludy is a fresh voice in an age of compromise, and a passionate leader of young women everywhere. This book will appeal to those who believe that the lines have become blurred between the church and the world — and would be perfect for a discussion group or book club.
