Christian Rapper Lecrae Delivers Sanitizing Sinks to Help Homeless Fight Coronavirus

The coronavirus poses a great risk to homeless people who are often living in close quarters with each other in shelters or outside with little protection. And many of them don't have any way to sanitize their hands like the whole world is being told to do.

So Grammy Award-winning hip hop artist Lecrae teamed up with an Atlanta-based charity to help keep the homeless safe.

The Centers for Disease Control's top recommendation to protect against the virus is by washing your hands. So Lecrae and a group of volunteers from "Love Beyond Walls" charity planted portable handwashing stations around Atlanta.

"I wanted to continue doing the same stuff I've been doing in any city I've lived in and that's just being close to the disenfranchised and marginalized communities," Lecrae said.

The charity wrote on its website that people immediately started washing their hands once the stations were delivered, expressing gratitude for the opportunity they hadn't been given until then.

Grammy Award-winning artist Lecrae @lecrae joined Loved Beyond Walls @lovebeyondwalls to make a difference throughout downtown #Atlanta Thursday, to assemble and distribute hand sanitizing stations for the homeless. Lecrae says he’s known Terence Lester @imterencelester executive director of #LoveBeyondWalls, for years. The Love Beyond Walls mission is to “restore dignity to the homeless and poor by providing a voice, visibility, shelter, community, and grooming and support services to achieve self-sufficiency. Lester and Lecrae connected after the COVID-19 outbreak via phone to discuss ideas of how to serve the underserved in our area. When the pandemic hit, I thought, ‘What is the homeless community doing about these warnings?’” Lecrae told Channel 2. We spent a good amount of time putting them around Hurt Park,” Lecrae said, adding that the group took food as well, assuming some of the people would want a nice meal. Sandwiches, drinks and “like a gazillion cheeseburgers” were handed out to people in the area. The portable hand-washing stations hold 5 gallons of water and have a soap dispenser full of soap connected to them. The soap dispensers and water can be refilled, and the stations can be possibly relocated at a later date. ___ For more empowering content follow us at: Facebook: Black Dollar Network Source wsbtv || wowk news _____ #ControlTheNarrative #BlackDollarNetwork #Educate #Equip #Empower

Lecrae and "Love Beyond Walls" continue to raise money for the project and are planning on installing more stations. The charity also plans to start shipping them across the country.
