Doctors said there was no reason to keep Matthew Davis alive.  His brain injury was so severe, they told his wife, Danielle, to let him go. But she refused.  Then her husband made a stunning recovery.

Just seven short months after Danielle and Matthew were married, Matthew was in a horrible motorcycle accident. It was a miracle he survived.

The crash left him comatose, barely clinging to life. In fact, Matthew was in such bad shape, his doctor advised Danielle to take him off life support and let him die.

"He literally drew a graph on the board and said, 'You know, 90 percent of people with this injury never regain consciousness,'" Danielle said, reports LittleThings.com. "Finally, the doctor said, 'You know, if this were me, I'd want my family to pull the plug.'"

Danielle couldn't bring herself to do that.  She was still a newlywed and was determined to spend more time with her husband, even if he was incapacitated.

So, although her husband was still in a coma, she took him home and cared for him there. Then another miracle: Matthew woke up from his coma!

Although that was reason for celebration, Matthew was not himself.  He had brain damage.  He didn't even know who Danielle was.  He couldn't speak very well and was unable to walk.

So Danielle and Matthew began the difficult task of recovery.  Now, four years later, their hard work has paid off.  Matthew isn't completely healed to the place where he was before the crash, but he's light years ahead of where anyone thought he would be today.  He can walk, talk, ride a bike, even do push-ups.

When Danielle said, "In sickness and in health," she meant every word of it. Matthew is eternally grateful that she saved his life.

"You fought for me so hard and, if you really think about it, that's the reason that I'm here today," he said.
