Missionaries from the Charlotte, North Carolina-based SIM USA who worked with Ebola patients in Liberia will be returning to the United States, the organization announced Sunday.

Public health officials in North Carolina said the returning aid workers showed no signs of Ebola but will be quarantined for 21 days as a precaution.

SIM missionary Nancy Writebol and Samaritan's Purse missionary Dr. Kent Brantly contracted the deadly virus while working with patients in Liberia.

They were flown to the United States last week and are being treated at a hospital in Atlanta.

As of Wednesday, a total of 1,779 Ebola cases, including 961 deaths, have been reported in the African nations of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, according to the World Health Organization.
