Resveratrol, an antioxidant found in dark chocolate and red wine, may not have the health benefits scientists thought.

Some researchers believe it helped fight heart disease and added years to people's lives.

But a new study from Johns Hopkins University did not find evidence of those benefits.

The 11-year study followed some 800 Italian men and women age 65 and older to assess the benefits of resveratrol in reducing inflammation, cardiovascular disease, cancer, aging, and death.

Researchers found little correlation between levels of resveratrol and longevity.

The study's lead researcher saud there's more to healthy eating than reliance on one substance and that the Mediterranean diet of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grains, coupled with exercise, is still good advice.

Other researchers say more studies need to be done on resveratrol.
