Janice Dean is best known as the senior meteorologist for the Fox News Channel. But she's also a children's author, and just in time for winter she's released her new book Freddy the Frogcaster and the Big Blizzard.

It's the second book in a series about Freddy the Frog and his friends who learn the science behind weather while saving the day in their town of Lilypad.

Dean, whose nickname is "The Weather Machine," says she wanted to help younger children quench their curiosity about weather while learning the importance of preparing for extreme scenarios like blizzards.

As the mother of two young boys, Dean said even she prefers to cover extreme weather from afar.

For Dean, who was born and raised in Canada, it was extreme winter weather that gave her the meteorology bug.

It was also in Canada where the 44-year-old perfected her knock-your-teeth-out impression of a French Canadian hockey announcer. You can find that about 9:30 into Jennifer Wishon's lighthearted interview with "The Weather Machine."
