Sexually transmitted diseases are a hidden epidemic in American society, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Live Science reports there are nearly 20 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections in the United States every year.

The CDC estimates there are 110 million infections at any given time.

According to the agency, the leading STDs include: human papillomavirus, syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV/AIDS, pelvic inflammatory disease, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and chlamydia.
