JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli security forces arrested 29 Hamas activists overnight Tuesday in the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Nablus (biblical Shechem).

Tuesday night's sting operation was carried out by several elite IDF units working in tandem with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Israel Police.

Senior Hamas operatives and some former convicts who'd returned to their terror activities were taken in for questioning.

On Monday, the Shin Bet lifted a gag order on the arrest of a Hamas terror cell planning an attack on Israeli soldiers during last month's Purim holiday.

Security forces confiscated weapons, cash, computers, cell phones and other paraphernalia the terror cells were using to plan attacks on Israelis.

The Shin Bet said the terror cells "were funded and orchestrated by a Hamas overseas headquarters," The Jerusalem Post reported.

"They were arrested before they were able to carry out the attack," they said. "We have seized firearms in the course of the investigation."
