Members of Congress and constitutional law experts are warning President Barack Obama is taking over powers that should belong to Congress.

During a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Jonathan Turley, with George Washington University, warned that even though he criticized President Bush for taking over too much power, President Obama is accelerating that trend.

He added the president's moves could threaten the country.

The hearing, "Enforcing the President's Constitutional Duty to Faithfully Execute the Laws," focused on the multiple areas Obama has bypassed Congress, ranging from healthcare and immigration to marriage and welfare rules. The Washington Free Beacon reported.

Elizabeth Price Foley, a law professor at Florida International University, warned that the president is making Congress irrelevant.

"We are a country of law and not men. It's going to render Congress superfluous," she said.

Foley said if Congress wants to stay relevant, it should not standby by and let the president take its power away.
