Boehner Explains Move to Sue President Obama

House Speaker John Boehner has elaborated on both his reasoning and a timetable for a Congressional lawsuit against President Barack Obama for enacting laws through executive orders rather than through Congress as stipulated in the Constitution.

In an article for CNN on Sunday, Boehner stated that he plans to introduce legislation for the lawsuit later this month "before it is too late."

Boehner suggested the president has overstepped his authority in a number of areas, including health care, energy, foreign policy, and education.

"Too often over the past five years, the president has circumvented the American people and their elected representatives through executive action, changing and creating his own laws, and excusing himself from enforcing statutes he has sworn to uphold--at times even boasting about his willingness to do it, as if daring the American people to stop him," Boehner wrote.

The speaker added that this isn't the first time the House has raised the issue.

"We've passed legislation to address this problem (twice), but Senate Democrats, characteristically, have ignored it," Boehner continued. "There must be accountability."

President Obama responded to the lawsuit threat with defiance and even disdain.

In a speech last week he noted, "middle class families can't wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff. So sue me."
