President Barack Obama is vowing to hold accountable anyone involved in the falsification of records at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Any misconduct, whether it's allegations of V.A. staff covering up long wait times or cooking the books, I will not stand for it," Obama said Wednesday after meeting with Veterans' Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and top aide Rob Nabors.

"So, if these allegations prove to be true, it is dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it, period," he said.

The White House is under mounting pressure to address allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths at V.A. Hospitals.

Obama has tasked Nabors with overseeing a review of the V.A. health system.

Officials are investigating 26 facilities nationwide, including a Phoenix hospital where 40 veterans allegedly died while waiting for treatment.
