The White House is blasting former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for saying Democrats are waging the real war on women.

The former governor addressed the Republican National Committee Thursday. During his remarks, he said Democrats are trying to win female voters with birth control and telling them "they cannot control their libido" without the government's help.

Democrats pounced on the comment and accused Huckabee of saying women can't control their sex drives. White House press secretary Jay Carney called the comments "offensive."

But political observers said Huckabee's words are being twisted.

"If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without 'Uncle Sugar' coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it," Huckabee actually said.

"Let us take that discussion all across America because women are far more than the Democrats have played them to be, and women across America need to stand up and say, enough of that nonsense," he continued.

Huckabee is considering running for the White House in 2016.
