The GOP debate stage will see only six contenders tonight during the Greenville, South Carolina Republican contest.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and business mogul Donald Trump lead the pack with a single win under their belt after respective victories in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, the four other candidates will need a solid showing ahead of the upcoming South Carolina and Nevada primaries.

Marco Rubio finished fifth in New Hampshire after a poor debate performance and criticism that while he delivers a good speech and sharp answers, he lacked depth.

Rubio told ABC News' that he has changed his strategy since New Hampshire. Last Saturday he elected not to attack his fellow Republicans and instead focus on President Barack Obama, but now he is focusing on Trump, Cruz and specifically former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

He accused Bush of having "no foreign policy experience, period" and called Cruz someone who will "say or do anything to get elected."

Rubio's performance has created a potential opening for Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich but they will need to standout to continue on.

Former neurosurgeon Ben Carson barely met the requirements to be on stage. An NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released last month showed Ben Carson polling at eight percent in South Carolina.

Carson placed fourth in the Iowa caucuses then slipped in New Hampshire, winning only about two percent of the vote.

Carly Fiorina and Gov. Chris Christie dropped out of the race this week and Rick Santorum and Rand Paul dropped out last week. Now the question remains who will be the next to go?
