Walker to Lawmakers: Listen to Town Hall Protesters

Across the country lawmakers are returning home to face angry protestors at town hall meetings, something Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker knows a thing or two about given the opposition he’s faced over the years. CBN’s Jenna Browder sat down with him at CPAC and asked him what advice he’d give these lawmakers. Watch the clip above for his answer. You can also read a transcript of his response below.

“Well, we went through this a lot ourselves over the past six years and the reminder is really two-fold: One, to listen. Everybody has a right to be heard and in America you can protest your government and people need to understand that.”

“And I would take the time, particularly tell the members of the House and Senate, ‘Don’t rush it. Spend the time; listen to people; hear them out even if they don’t agree with you.’”

“But equally as important -- and I remember saying this years ago to a reporter who asked about protestors and their right to be heard -- I said, ‘They have a right to be heard, but I’m not going to let their noise drown out the majority of people who voted us in to be doing the things we’re supposed to be doing.”

“ So it’s really that just noise isn’t the same as listening to the everyday people who said we want you to do something.”
