The Trump administration's decision to remove nearly 50 U.S. attorneys general has raised the ire of some Democrats. But it's actually common practice for presidents to remove the attorneys from the previous administration.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has asked for the resignation of 46 officials.

Over the weekend, one Manhattan-based federal prosecutor raised quite a brouhaha over the move. Preet Bharara says he refused to resign and was later fired.

"I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired," Bharara said in a tweet.

That led some Democrats to blast President Donald Trump, accusing him of not really wanting to get corruption out of government, which Bharara had focused on fighting.

But Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama all did the same thing so they could select their own new U.S. attorneys.

This time around, many of Obama's attorneys had already left, knowing that they would be replaced.
