Georgia megachurch pastor Jentezen Franklin recently met with members of the Trump administration and other faith leaders to discuss immigration, the humanitarian crisis at the border, and policies aimed at finding a middle ground in this divisive political climate.

In an Instagram post, Franklin called for believers to pray for all aspects of government, specifically the president, Congress, and the Supreme Court. He believes the government will only be able to thrive at its best if there is unity.

"Amazing meeting today in the West Wing of the White House," he wrote in the post. "We all need to pray that we can find middle ground on some of our nation's greatest issues. Let's cover our President, Congress and Supreme Court in prayer and set the example of love & unity, even when we disagree. Prayer still works!"

Evangelicals are not strangers to the White House, with a faith advisory board consistently meeting with members of the Trump administration. The meetings happen often and are meant to foster dialogue on crucial topics, such as immigration and the border crisis. Consequently, evangelical leaders have played a pivotal role in recent bills. One of the most notable was the First Step Act aimed at bringing forth nationwide criminal justice reform.

Tuesday's White House meeting comes as former Trump aide Cliff Sims releases a new book, Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House, condemning the president and evangelical leaders for dropping the ball on Christian persecution.

Sims criticized the faith advisory board for failing to press the commander in chief on the matter of offering asylum to persecuted believers, highlighting how the Trump administration had reduced the number of Christian refugees allowed to enter the US.

Sims also condemned Trump for not being concerned for Christians. However, President Trump's support of various evangelical causes, including a new legislative push for Bible literacy, calls that claim into question.

Regarding the Bible literacy campaign, Trump tweeted, "Numerous states introducing Bible Literacy classes, giving students the option of studying the Bible. Starting to make a turn back? Great!"

Meanwhile, the president is dismissing Sims as being a "gofer" and a "mess," saying his new tell-all is based on "fiction."

"A low-level staffer that I hardly knew named Cliff Sims wrote yet another boring book based on made up stories and fiction," Trump tweeted Tuesday morning. "He pretended to be an insider when in fact he was nothing more than a gofer. He signed a nondisclosure agreement. He is a mess!"
