The rush to begin signing up for Obamacare before Monday's deadline crashed web sites, jammed phone lines, and left thousands waiting for hours.

In California, the crush forced administrators to shut down key parts of the state exchange and ask people to complete the process in the days ahead.

"I have not had a physical in over 15 years," said Dionne Gilbert, a 51-year-old uninsured woman from Denver.

Gilbert waited in line for 90 minutes to get enrollment assistance.

"I told myself, 'You need to do this. Your daughter loves you and needs you,'" she said.

But Braxton Rodriguez, a 19-year-old Topeka, Kan., resident, left an enrollment, frustrated with the process.

"I'm not impressed with it at all," Rodriguez said of the HealthCare.gov website.

Still, government officials now say they are on track to sign up more than 7 million people by the time the extended deadline expires next week.

Meanwhile, critics question how many enrollees are actually paying premiums.
