Insurance seekers who missed the deadline to buy coverage under Obamacare will pay a higher price than just a fine. They won't be able to buy insurance for at least seven more months.

That's because insurers are refusing to sell to individuals after the enrollment period ends, meaning health care is no longer available year-round.

The move shuts out the the young and healthy as well as the sick and elderly.

Insurance broker Steve Bobiak of Frackville, Pa., said he only became aware of the situation two weeks ago.

"It's lousy communication out there," he said. "If we don't know, my God, how do they expect other people to know? It's terrible."

Some states are extending their deadlines to help those who had technical problems trying to meet this week's deadline, but the rest will have to wait for the next open enrollment this November.
