Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly Cancer Free
Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly is cancer free, his doctors say.
"The treatments so far have completely eliminated Mr. Kelly's pain, and his level of function has essentially returned to normal," Dr. Peter Costantino said in a statement released by Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.
Doctors diagnosed the former Buffalo Bills star with oral cancer in the middle of 2013.
They performed surgery to remove the tumors, but found a recurrence of cancer in March.
The doctors now say chemotherapy and radiation treatments have eliminated Kelly's illness and his pain and he is able to function normally.
Kelly's long battle prompted support from thousands on social media with the catch phrases "Kelly Tough" and "Prayers for JK."
Kelly told ESPN, "I still need the prayers."
