Snow, Arctic Cold Sweep Midwest, Eastern US

The second arctic winter blast in two weeks is pounding the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.

Snow is piling up from Chicago to New England, as residents face high winds and dangerously cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service warns that before it's all over this storm could dump up to 10 inches of snow on New York and Philadelphia, and a polar freeze like the one earlier this month is spreading subzero temperatures from the Midwest to the Northeast.

In Washington, D.C., the federal government shut down before the first flake even dropped, and crews in Virginia worked around the clock to prepare, spraying roads to keep the ice and snow from sticking.

Residents in the Big Apple braced for a messy rush hour.

"If the storm stays on track, it's perfectly timed to disrupt [the] evening commute," Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said.

"I hope it's not going to get too bad before I get home," New York commuter Moses Beliza said.

Travel is already dicey on Indiana's roads, and many in the Midwest are staying indoors.
