Americans are fairly charitable with their money, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The survey, conducted the second half of 2013, found that residents are more likely to give charities money than donate their time.

Utah has the highest giving rate, with 71 percent of residents saying they donate money to charity. Fifty-six percent say they also give their time.

Louisiana is the least financially giving state. Still, over half their residents, 57 percent, make charitable donations.

Residents in several Southern and Southwestern states and New York were among the least likely to say they did both.

Gallup also found that people with higher well-being are more likely to give back to their communities.

Conversely, states with the lowest charitable giving had lower well-being scores.
