Redskins Ready for Long Haul Battle for Their Name

The NFL's Washington Redskins say they will appeal a ruling from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office after the agency cancelled six federal trademark registrations.

The agency revoked the trademark because they said the name Redskins is "disparaging to Native Americans." The office said that it violates the Trademark Act.

But the team's trademark attorney said the Redskins will still use the registrations during the appeals process, which likely will last for years.

Some analysts say the ruling does increase the political pressure on the Redskins to change their name.
