Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the American soldier swapped for five Taliban leaders, is back on U.S. soil.

The Idaho native, who was captured by the Taliban in 2009, arrived early Friday morning at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

In a controversial deal struck by the Obama administration, Bergdahl was released May 31 in exchange for five senior Taliban leaders from Guantanomo Bay.

The Army said Bergdahl will continue the reintegration process, which will include reuniting with his family.

Officials are investigating the circumstances of Berdahl's capture and whether he walked away without leave or deserted his unit.
