This Memorial Day the nation honors the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

All across America, events are taking place to remember those who serve.

At Arlington National Cemetery, the Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment, also known as the "Old Guard," is continuing its 40-year tradition known as "Flags In," placing a flag at the gravestone and burial sites of America's fallen heroes.

The 3rd Infantry placed more than 275,000 flags, paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of the United States of America.

Many of these soldiers recently returned from deployment and have lost friends and family members. They see this service as a way to honor their fallen comrades.

The unit has been carrying out the annual tradition since 1948.
