Legendary movie star Mickey Rooney died of natural causes Sunday at his home in Hollywood, Calif. He was 93 years old.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was Hollywood's top box office draw in the late 1930s to early 1940s. He was nominated for four Oscars over the course of his long career, and he won two special Oscars for film achievements.

Rooney was well known for many roles, including the fictional character Andy Hardy in 16 MGM films.

The film star was married eight times. His final marriage started in 1978 and lasted longer than his previous marriages combined.

In the 1970s, Rooney became a devoted Christian and talked openly about the importance of knowing Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

"I believe God gave me my career. I was sent here to do my Father's work," the New York Times quoted Rooney in July 1993.

Rooney is survived by four sons and four daughters.
