Texas Ed Board Votes on Textbook Review Rules

Texas is turning the page on a new chapter in its longstanding cultural battle over textbooks.

The State Board of Education is voting on proposals to restrict who can serve on the panels that scrutinize the books used in Texas schools.

In past years, some have objected to religious conservatives being on the panel because they raised concerns over science texts with extensive lessons on climate change and evolution.

The Lone Star State is one of the largest textbook markets in the country. Publishers are inclined to tailor products to fit Texas standards and then offer them to other states.
