Teachers in some Missouri school districts are being trained to carry concealed weapons in classrooms.

In light of recent school shootings, lawmakers in the state are considering a measure that would allow teachers to carry guns in schools.

The bill is designed to help protect schools in remote areas where the police response to a shooting may take too long.

Meanwhile in Georgia, school officials have rejected a similar proposal, saying such a law wouldn't make schools any safer and may create more problems in the long run.

"We could give (teachers) all the training in the world as to how to a shoot a gun, but knowing when to shoot poses a major problem," said Steve Smith, superintendent of the Bibb County School District. "The folks we work with day in and day out don't have that."df

Missouri state Rep. Kevin Elmer, who supports the idea of teattchers carrying concealed weapons, recently shared his insights on the issue with CBN News' Mark Martin. Click play for his comments.
