Air Force Academy Wipes Bible Verse from Whiteboard

Air Force Academy cadets have complained of "mass confusion" following the removal of a Bible verse from a dorm whiteboard, according to a Christian legal advocate.

A senior cadet had written Galations 2:20 on the whiteboard outside his dorm room.

The verse reads "I have been crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me."

But Mikey Weinstein, director of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said the verse display was an abuse of authority. He said 29 cadets and four faculty members contacted the MRFF to complain about the verse.

"Had it been in his room, not a problem. It's not about the belief. It's about the time, the place, and the manner," Weinstein told conservative commentator Todd Starnes this week. He also said he is considering suing.

Officials at the Academy then removed the verse.

"We don't see misconduct here but the division between your personal room and the hallway is a gray area," Lt. Col. Brus Vidal told Starnes.

Mike Berry, from the Liberty Institute, said cadets have been confused over the actions surrounding the verse. The cadets said that hall whiteboards commonly display inspirational quotes.

Berry said some cadets are concerned they will face disciplinary action if they write religious messages or verses on their boards.

He said Liberty Institute is ready to defend any cadets who believe their constitutional rights have been violated.
