Inclement Weather on Tap for Mother's Day

The threat of severe weather stretches through Mother's Day for much of the eastern half of the country.

Thunderstorms, hail and dangerous winds have already swept through the nation's midsection, leaving a path of damaged homes and flooded roads.

Several tornadoes touched down in Minnesota and 70-mile-per-hour winds in Dallas knocked down trees and power lines.

Dallas firefighters had to rescue five children from a creek after they were swept up by the water.

Firefighter Jason Evans told reporters, "These are kids with absolutely no training, no equipment, and being completely caught off guard -- so we are very fortunate, as well as them, that no one died of this incident."

In Kansas, 90-mile-per-hour winds caused a train to derail, knocking nearly three dozen cars off the track. 

On the flip side, spring snow fell from Nebraska to South Dakota.
