A new Associated Press-GfK poll shows growing public support for same-sex marriage.

According to the survey, 46 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing gay marriage, while 39 percent are opposed. Only 1 in 7 say they're neutral on the subject.

Researchers also found younger Americans are more likely to support same-sex marriage those aged 50 and up.

In addition, Democrats were more likely to vote in favor of gay marriage than Republicans.

The AP survey, conducted May 16-19, 2014, was based on online interviews with 1,654 adults, with a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
