Former President Jimmy Carter is talking openly about his cancer prognosis, saying it has spread to his brain.

The cancer was originally on his liver. He started radiation treatments Thursday and said he is optimistic about the fight ahead of him.

"It's now in the hands of the God I worship," Carter said. "I hope for the best and accept what comes. I think I have been as blessed as any human being in the world."

The 90-year-old said he doesn't intend to quit his current job any time soon. He teaches Sunday School at the Maranatha Baptist Church.

His next class will be this Sunday. He said he'll be there for as long as he's physically and mentally able.
