Popular conservative radio host Michael Medved has stage three cancer.

Medved made the announcement Friday during his radio show and on his website.

He said he'll be taking a break from the broadcast while he undergoes treatment.

"I always knew that it would take something serious to keep me away from the microphone I cherish for an extended period of time," he wrote. "As it turns out, I am facing something serious. It's called cancer."

Medved was diagnosed in the middle of December and began treatment immediately. He said his prognosis of full recovery is good.

Medved said his last scheduled radiation treatment will come on Feb. 26, and he hopes to return to regular broadcasting as soon as possible after that.

In the meantime, he plans to continue writing columns and commentaries, and to continue work on his new book, God's Hand on America: The Case for Divine Providence in U.S. History.
