Police in Waco, Texas, are on high alert after a shootout between rival biker gangs left nine people dead and 18 others wounded.

Bikers from five rival gangs were meeting Sunday to discuss turf and recruitment outside a popular restaurant Sunday when the violence broke out.

Police say all of the people killed and injured were members of the gangs.

"I saw bullet holes in cars. I saw windows shattered out of cars. There are police officers' cars that have been hit. It is amazing that innocent civilians were not injured here," Sgt. Patrick Swanton, with the Waco, Texas Police Department, said.

Police detained more than 100 people for questioning and also made several arrests.
