A pro-life campaign has saved the lives of 35 babies only eight days into their mission.

40 Days for Life is a local-based campaign that is committed to ending abortion in communities around the U.S. and Canada.

It is a "non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil" that coincides with Lent each year and last year the campaign saved 9,699 babies from abortion.

Local campaign leaders have reported that 35 mothers have decided at the last minute to opt out of an abortion.

Life News reports that on the first day of the campaign a prayer volunteer spoke with a woman outside of an abortion center. The woman went inside the clinic momentarily, but left and asked for pregnancy help and a ride home.

"Her husband was waiting in the parking lot …but he would not be pleased with her decision to not abort her baby. They had three children, and he didn't want any more," recounts Michelle, a volunteer.

In Naples, Florida, a prayer procession to Planned Parenthood caught the attention of a young woman who was encouraged to visit a mobile medical unit and get an ultrasound. She decided to not go through with the abortion after seeing her child.

"We prayed our hearts out," volunteer Melody told Life News. "It is not us who change hearts or cause things to happen. It is God. Thank you, Almighty God, for hearing us this morning!"
