Trump Pushes Hard to Reach Out to Minority Groups

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is making a much stronger effort to reach out to minority group.

He issued that call over the weekend in the key swing state of Virginia.

"In recent days, across this country, I've asked the African-American community to honor me with their vote," Trump said. "I fully recognize that outreach to the African-American community is an area where the Republican Party must do better."

He also noted that the GOP is the party of Abraham Lincoln and that he wants it to be the home of the African-American voter once again.

Trump met with his new National Hispanic Advisory Council Saturday, which will provide assistance with the campaign's Hispanic outreach.

Helen Aguirre Ferre, director of Hispanic Communication for the Republican National Committee said it was a "game-changing" opportunity for church.

Polls show that Trump is trailing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton significantly among minority voters.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the group's engagement "is just one component of our expansive effort to engage the Hispanic community."

"Their contributions will help us compete for every vote in every community all the way through Election Day," he said.
