Police say a Muslim college student lied when she reported that men assaulted her on a New York City subway train and called her a terrorist.

18-year old Yasmin Seweid first told police the Dec. 1 incident happened as the train pulled into Grand Central Station.

She said three drunk men approached her, yelled "Donald Trump" and told her that she didn't belong here.

Seweid supplied verbal and written confessions to the police and told them that the men tried to grab her bag and Islamic headscarf.

She provided police with a description of the suspects. New York Daily News reports that one of the cops believed they spotted a man on video following her on the train when she got off the subway.

"She has numerous opportunities to admit nothing happened and she kept sticking by her story," a police source told the publication.

The Baruch College student went as far as posting an emotional account of the attack on Facebook.

"I was harassed on the subway last night," she wrote. " And it was just so dehumanizing I can't speak about it without getting emotional."

The New York City Police Department originally investigated the case as an anti-Muslim bias incident.

Now they say she made up the entire incident. Sgt. Brendan Ryan told USA Today that significant police department resources were used to investigate the claims.

They were unable to find any witnesses or significant video.

When confronted by police with questions, she confessed to making the whole thing up, citing family problems.

Seweid was arrested on charges of filing a false police report and obstructing governmental administration. She could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
