Unknown criminals torched a 100-year-old black Mississippi church and defaced it with the words "Vote Trump" on Tuesday.

Despite this act of hatred, thousands of people banded together and raised more than $180,000 to repair Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

It all began with a GoFundMe account and a goal of raising $10,000. Donations from all over the world poured in and surpassed the goal in just two days.

"When I ginned up this page before my first meeting at work today, I had no earthly clue it would get so big," writes J. Blair Reeves Jr., who organized the GoFundMe fundraising initiative. "Responses have been pouring in from all over the world, and they're truly extraordinary. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, atheists and many more, from all over the United States and many other countries."

While the church greatly appreciates all the donations, Pastor Carolyn Hudson specifically asks for prayer.

"This has left our hearts broken, but we are strong together. … Y'all continue to pray for us," she told NBC News.

Meanwhile, authorities are working hard to find whoever committed the act.

"First, anyone who burns a place of worship will answer to almighty God for this crime against people of faith," said Republican Governor Phil Bryant on Facebook. "But they should also answer to man's law. Authorities are investigating and we expect a suspect will be identified and brought to justice."
