A police officer was shot in the head in Detroit Tuesday night, adding to a growing list of attacks against law enforcement officials this week.

Wayne State University Officer Collin Rose, 29, radioed that he was investigating possible thefts of navigation systems from cars and approached someone on a bike.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said officers who later arrived on the scene found Rose shot in the head.

He is now recovering and police are questioning a man about the attack.  It's not clear if the man they have in custody is the shooter.

Detroit Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said Rose was not shot with his own gun and police are still looking for the weapon.

The university's president, M. Roy Wilson, said police don't have a motive for the shooting or "whether it was an ambush or something different."

Meanwhile, two shootings of police officers in Texas and Missouri on Sunday have been classified as ambush-style attacks. In the first incident, a San Antonio detective was fatally shot, and in the second incident a St. Louis officer was shot twice in the face.

Police officers were also shot and injured during traffic stops in Sanibel, Florida, and Gladstone, Missouri, on Sunday night, but authorities have not suggested those were targeted attacks, reports The Associated Press.
